Today was hot!

So hot, the turtles got to have watermelon for dinner.

Michael Ray immediately tore into his slice.

And even though the watermelon had just come out of the refrigerator...

...which is not a good thing because Michael Ray is cold-blooded...

I don't think he got a tummyache because that cold watermelon didn't stay cold for long once it got inside a very hot turtle.

That watermelon was sooooo good.

Too......darn......good......to......stop.....eating.

And once Michael Ray was done with it, which took all of a couple minutes, he was off...

...to finish off Cathy Jean's slice of watermelon (which she had not even started eating yet!).

What a great set of pictures! My turtles love the watermelon as well... I think they don't even take the time to breathe between the bites:))

I know! That watermelon disappeared really fast. And if Michael Ray can eat something THAT FAST while I'm watching, you know it's something really, really good. But Cathy Jean....that girl continues to snooze and lose.

Maria Michael Ray looks like he got brain freeze from that cold melon in the third picture! Mmmm, watermelon. Lucky turtles :) Relief is on the way Maria, be here Sunday so they say.

I'd like to know where you keep Michael Ray and Cathy Jean during the winter. They are amazing.

You say Cathy Jean is snoozing and losing. Is she okay?

Anna-Thanks for all the nice comments. ;-)

Pix-You know, I was wondering about that too while I was watching him eat. He might have paused a couple times from a possible brain freeze but then he just kept going. It's Sunday, it's still hot and humid...but not as bad as what was going on yesterday......yet.

Maureen-One of the best dinners you can make ever. :-)

Linda-When it gets to be below 65, I bring them indoors. They each have a stock tank in the basement where they spend their winters under a light for heat. Eventually, they get very, very bored. Around February or March they get active and want to get out. I'm not sure if it's that spring is approaching or that they can't stand the boredom any longer. There's one certain day in spring when they both get so active, I have to find an opportunity (a temp around 70 degrees) to put them outdoors (even if it's only for a couple hours) because they are compelled to get out and do something. It's like an "on" switch was turned on that day for them. Michael is very active. Cathy Jean, not so much. She spends most of her time following Michael but sometimes needs to get away and hangs out in other parts of the backyard. Michael has a definite territory. He also is a much better eater than Cathy. I think if Cathy Jean could eat nothing but corn and romaine for the rest of her life, she'd be happy. For some reason she has no interest in eating fruit which is Michael Ray's passion...besides taking down those peonies every spring.

Too cute! I am with the turtle though, nothing tastes better on a hot day than ice cold watermelon!

I didn't know that a big tortoise could be a little piggy but now I do!!!!

what a happy little turtle!

Shelly-That seems to be everyone's opinion. :-)

Eve-Ha ha ha. That's a nicer way to describe him than what I usually come up with.

Kathy-Thanks for visiting. If you read up more about my turtles you'll find that "happy" and "little" do not exactly describe them. Cathy Jean is pretty gentle when you compare her to Michael Ray. But Michael Ray? He's always baaaaaad. I don't know why nobody believes me. :-/
