...I woke up to the sound of something being dragged slowly down the hallway. I didn't have to open my eyes. I knew it was Michael.
Michael's been known to move chairs, tables, large bird cages...it's just something he does. Over the years, I've learned to pretty much ignore him when I hear him in one of his furniture repositioning moods. From experience, I know there is nothing I can do to make him stop because you can't a stop a turtle from doing what he wants to do, a turtle can only stop himself.
When he got to the bedroom door and knew that I had finally seen him, Michael made a determined right turn and left that ladder behind...
...far, far behind because he was on his way fast to get to the back door in the kitchen so he could get the heck out.
Message delivered. It was time to get up, go out and let a turtle do whatever he's compelled to do as soon as possible. Forget about sleeping in when there's a turtle wanting to do something else.
Really, just forget about it.

Amazing! And yes, you can't stop a turtle. It's mission impossible. I do wonder: is it determination or stubbornness?
I could read about those crazy turtles all day...I am thinking a series of books.....
Sandra-I think determination and stubbornness are the exact same thing. Not sure why one is considered an admirable trait and the other one isn't. :-/
Mental- Series?????? Not one book, a SERIES????? Something along the line of "Michael Takes Down Kansas City," "Michael Moves Iowa to Nebraska," "Michael Digs a Hole to China," "How Michael Moved the Grand Canyon to Texas?" I don't think I'm being too dramatic. Just give that turtle some uninterrupted time and he'll do something big.
love this! But what about that BAAAAD girl Stella?
Whatever it takes to get the lady's attention. Kids drag chairs. Turtles move ladders and then step up to moving the Grand Canyon to Texas. Just give him a minute.
I like how you photoed Michael with a slow shutter so he looks like he is really zooming around the corner.
That is a very determined BIG turtle! Love your shots and the thought of Michael dragging a ladder down the hall cracks me up!
Maureen-No stories about Stella yet although I think something evil is probably simmering in her head this very minute.....
Oh Leenie. I came home at lunch to put the turtles outdoors (it was too cold to let them out this morning) and saw that Michael had dragged a plant stand from the living room to the room Stella is in and left the stand next to her cage. The birds were all put out because they had to watch this piece of furniture walk itself into another room. I had to be told all about it. Oh that Michael is something.
And by the way, that was no slow shutter. I have a point and shoot camera. That was one fast turtle! Turtles can zoom. :-)
Pix-That Michael drags around a lot of things but I've never seen him drag anything that tall before. I didn't even have to lift my head that morning. I just opened my eyes and looked in the direction of the dragging sound. You know, if I ever lived with a poltergeist, the poor thing would probably explode because any weird sound happening in the house? I completely ignore it.
So funny, Michael is endearing. I did not know that turtles could leave in a blur...LOL
I never knew turtles could be so much fun!!
I don't think people really understand how fast a turtle can be.
And how clever.
Sorry I haven't been around lately. I'm feeling a little overwhelmed.
